Dental Bridges

Dental Crowns

Dental Fillings
A dental filling is one of the most common dental procedures, aside from cleanings. When decay has damaged a tooth (called a cavity), the decay needs to be removed as soon as possible.
After the decay is removed, the hole left from the removal is repaired with a “filling.” A special material is applied to the prepared cavity to restore the tooth back to its normal shape and function. If a cavity is left unattended for too long, the decay will not only spread, but it offers a weak area of the body for bacteria to enter.
The larger area of decay will require more extensive and more expensive repairs, and the bacteria can cause bigger health problems than just a simple filling.

Cleaning is done by gentle brushing to remove plaque and food particles, and then they are stored in water overnight to keep them from drying out. Effervescent cleansers are also available to add to the water to help the cleaning process, but they do not have to be used every night.

Flap Surgery
Periodontitis is gum disease. Gingival flap surgery is one treatment used to treat this gum disease and fight infection. The initial treatment for moderate or advanced gum disease is scaling and root planing. If scaling and planing do not help in treating periodontitis, flap surgery may be recommended. Osseous (or bone) surgery can also be performed along with flap surgery if needed.
Flap surgery treats the gums by separating them from the teeth and folding them back to allow access to the foot of the tooth and the bone. Before flap surgery is performed, the plaque and tartar are removed from around the teeth. General health and current medications will be assessed to determine if it is safe to perform the flap surgery.

Scaling and Root Planing
Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth every day. Brushing can keep a certain amount of plaque from forming, but not all. If plaque is not removed, the bacteria can cause inflammation and gum disease.
Inflammation causes the gums to pull away from the teeth, leaving spaces or pockets. The pockets then trap more plaque below the gum line and cannot be removed with regular brushing and flossing. If this plaque remains below the gum line, it can lead to bone loss and tooth loss.

TMJ
Most people refer to TMJ as pain or problems with their jaw. Technically, TMJ is the abbreviation for temporomandibular joint. The TMJ is the hinge between the skull and the jaw that provides for all movement (up, down, and side to side) of the jaw. Without this hinge, we would not be able to talk or eat.
A problem with the TMJ is more appropriately called TMD, which stands for temporomandibular disorder and encompasses many different symptoms.

Tooth Extraction

Extraction is the medical term for the removal of an entire tooth, including the root, from the jawbone.
